Rivers
A river is a natural flowing body of water that is typically freshwater. A river normally flows towards larger bodies of water such as oceans, lakes, or seas. Rivers are single streams of water that are confined between two banks. Rivers exist on every continent in the world except Antartica. Rivers have multiple uses including sources of food, sources of water, means of transportation, and sources of energy and hydropower. Rivers have a unique and intricate ecosystem of endless plants and animals. Life on the river includes: insects (dragonflies, water bugs), crustaceans (crayfish), mollusks (snails), fish (blue gill, bass, catfish), reptiles (snakes, turtles), and amphibians (frogs). Fishing, utilizing the water as a source of power, tourism, and means of transportation are all vital to supporting local economies in numerous cities across the world which make rivers a necessary and important part of millions of people's lives.
