Apps: More Is Not Always Better

For years, employees listened to music on the condition that it was limited to headphones or a radio station upon which everyone could agree. Employers felt that it helped with morale. Some employees actually were more productive while they listened to the power of music. It was a win - win situation.

Unfortunately, multifunction devices were invented. Devices could be used to phone, text or hold music, and even have the internet. In addition to all of those "apps", almost all devices, such as an iPod or a Blackberry, came with the built in ability to take photos, videos and voice recordings.

Management realized that it had a potential threat on its hands. Any photos, videos or voice recordings, even if initially innocuous, might have confidential or damaging information included. Increasingly, employees are being forbidden to listen to private music due to the many functions their music devices can do so they can listen.
