Chinese Food Staples
When you think of Chinese culture often we do not think about the common foods that are used in cooking. Rice is an important food staples in Chinese cooking. It is eaten like bread daily cooked or steamed. Fried rice is a popular item on many menus with vegetables, meat and seafood added. Noodles are another common food item served with meals. Noodles are thin to thick in diameter made with rice, or wheat flour. Noodles are sometimes served cold or hot. They are put in soups, mixed with meats and vegetables and often deep fried.
Vegetables in Chinese culture are another important food staple. They Chinese use cooked vegetables like mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, onions, scallions, broccoli and bamboo shoots in their cuisine. Most often vegetables are cut thinly into strips or small bite size pieces. They are often stir fried in oil with meat, fish, eggs, chicken and tofu.
