Scholarship Application
The New Mexico Environmental Health Association (NMEHA) is accepting applications for the Larry J. Gordon Achievement Scholarship for the academic year of 2008-2009. The scholarship will be the amount of one thousand dollars ($1000.00, $500.00 per semester) and will be awarded to deserving students subject to the following:
Eligiblitity
- Applicant must have successfully completed his/her sophomore year and plan to attend an accredited New Mexico University as a full-time (12 hours) student during the 2008-2009 academic term.
- Applicant must have maintained a 2.75 or better grade point average (gpa) throughout his/her previous college curriculum.
- Applicant`s previous and proposed curriculum must be concentrated in public health, environmental health, or related coursework (biology, chemistry, geology, etc...)
Conditions
- Completed applications, including references and transcripts must be postmarked no later than June 30, 2008.
- The award is to be used to defray expenses for tuition, books, fees, dormitory, food services, or other institutional charges.
- Should the recipient receive a full scholarship from another source, the NMEHA Larry J. Gordon Achievement Scholarship shall be presented to an alternate student.
- The scholarship is renewable through the recipient's senior year provided the recipient maintains at least a 2.75 gpa, continues in a qualified curriculum as defined in paragraph I. C. above, submits transcripts every semester, and reapplies annually.
- The scholarship shall be awarded in increments of five hundred dollars ($500.00) at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, provided transcripts are submitted and the recipient meets the requirements above.
- The NMEHA reserves the right to withdraw any or all awards according to the above stated eligibility requirements, limitations and conditions.
Applications
The NMEHA Awards Committee must receive the following information with a postmark no later than June 30, 2008.
- Application Form
- A brief summary of the applicant's proposed plan of study. (1 page maximum)
- Official transcripts of all college level course work completed.
- Two letters of reference.
