The 7 Ancient Wonders of the World

Of the 7 ancient wonders of the world, only the pyramids of Egypt still stand. They were commissioned by the pharaohs in and around 3000 B.C.. The other wonders have all since been destroyed.

One of the vanished ancient wonders was King Nebuchadnezzar II's Hanging Gardens of Babylon. He had them created in 600 B.C. for his homesick wife, Amytis of Media. The gardens were destroyed by an earthquake.

Another ancient wonder destroyed by an earthquake was the bronze statue of Colossus. He was thought to have stood straddling the entrance to the ancient port city of Rhodes with ships passing beneath him. This has been researched and found to be impossible. This statue did exist, but it more likely stood on one side of the entrance or the other.

Remember, although the 6 vanished wonders of the world can not be seen, they did exist at one time and where once world landmarks.
